Startup India gives an award to the startup for building innovative products, solutions, or scalable enterprises with a high potential to generate employment, create wealth, and above all, demonstrate measurable social impact.

Company: Mandya Organic Foods Private Limited

Organic Mandya was started with the objective of helping farmers create a self-sufficient lifestyle by adopting chemical-free farming. However, the market at the time proved insufficient for the farmers that took up the initiative, so Organic Mandya’s sales platform was put into place. After the first organic farmer’s supermarket in Mandya, the brand today owns and operates about seven of them across Mandya and Bangalore.

Product summary
Farmers’ produce is bought at a premium rate by Organic Mandya, processed, and then packaged in a premium manner to be sold across Mandya’s Supermarkets. Not only does it provide financial gain to poor farmers, but also helps urban dwellers repair their lost ties with the farmers that grow their food.
Impact
Mandya has created 320 organic farmer self-help groups in about 300 villages, as well as 270 women’s kitchen garden groups, 60 youth kabaddi groups, and a cooperative society with about 550 members.
In total, 12,000 farmer families are under Organic Mandya’s umbrella.

Winner | Post Harvest

Intello Labs has digitized food quality assessments across fresh produce supply chains, in order to ensure that a food item’s price means its quality is on par. The digitization has made the system more cost-effective, it’s standardized and accurate, and is faster and scalable.
Product summary
The Intello Track smartphone app lets users click a picture of the commodity they’re buying and see its freshness details stored online. This setup uses deep learning and computer vision , the only requirement is a smart phone with a 10 MP or more camera. Intello Deep meanwhile is a handheld scanner that checks factors like dry matter, moisture, and pesticide residue.
Impact
It allows people to stay healthier by buying fresh food and can also help stores pinpoint and cycle out old stock.

IntelloLabs won the Innovative AI Startup Award by Nasscom & Mphasis in 2019. They’re also the agriculture sector winner in the “AI for Good” program by NASSCOM and the Government of Karnataka.

Winner | Productivity

Toddy tappers have begun to move on from the tedious and risky job to easier and better-paying ones, creating an acute shortage of tappers for the coco-sap processing industries. SAPER instead automates the process of tapping and collection of sap, controlled via a wireless network powered by solar electricity. It’s a completely self-contained farm solution.
Product summary
SAPER is the world’s first robotic coconut sap tapping device that can replicate all the tedious tasks done by a tapper. Minimum training is required for the new job opportunities it will generate in rural areas in the post-processing of the sap (neera). The product also works on solar energy throughout its lifetime, leaving zero carbon footprint.
Impact
SAPER reduces the number of human tree climbs from 270 times to just 2 times in a period of 3 months.
The device and process have been patented in 28 countries, covering more than 90% of the coconut growing area in the world.

Winner | Allied Areas – Fisheries, etc.

Cornext is a startup addressing the green fodder shortage in India caused by the reduction in grazing lands and inconsistent crop practices. Cornext preserves green fodder when available, in the form of silage. During a shortage, these silage bales cater to a larger number of dairy farmers across the country.
Product summary
Silage baling is a process of compacting chopped and inoculated maize crop, tightly wrapped with UV-protected recyclable film. This way it retains moisture for up to 12 months, meaning green fodder is then available all year. Aside from improving the health and milk yield of cattle, this technology also makes it easier to store and transport fodder.
Impact
Cornext has produced and distributed up to 1 lakh metric tonnes of baled silage as high-quality green fodder, equivalent to four months of summer ration for 1 lakh animals.
The Mini Silage Baler has a daily production capacity of 20 metric tonnes, equal to 2,000 animal rations per day.

Cornext received the 2019 Animal Husbandry Grand Challenge Award from the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying. The Andhra Pradesh Government has also partnered with Cornext to draft the Fodder Security Policy.

The VR RobotGuru solution allows students to explore, and experience activities as if they are present in that environment. This highly scalable solution is not simply an engagement tool; it allows students to explore, experience, and be involved in activities and experiments which will allow them to understand the topics much better. It is a new avenue to be explored with learners and can be an effective new way to engage those that struggle with learning or implement a variety of new learning styles. RobotGuru believes that teaching the concept of “Learn by experiment” can be executed using their education platform.

Can also be applied as an effective teaching method for kids with learning disabilities.

Kickhead created a platform that allows students to study for their exams, at no charge. GovJobAdda is a platform for students to read up on current affairs or answer mock tests for all kinds of government exams, from SSC all the way to those for banking and railway jobs.
Product summary
GovJobAdda helps more than 4.8 Lakh students in India with preparing for Government exams. It is especially beneficial for students living in tier II cities and villages. They also have a Live Quiz module where they reward 10 users every day for reading and taking a quiz on current affairs.
Impact
Draws in close to 1,500 students every day.
The site sees 500 new registrations everyday.
When the Android app was launched in November 2019, it accumulated over 13,000 downloads in the first month.
